TWO SHORT…
————–
The Carliot – Orchestra Project.
The idea of the – “Carliot – It’s never too late Orchestra” – project is to collect myself and my 40-years of music creation. To gather new & old, young & older music friends I’ve met over the years in a recycling project before it’s… – “…too late”. I have written a lot of music, much for theater and dance. Most of that music has only been played with its performances and then ended up in folders and pockets.
But now some of the music is going to the surface again. A new life awaits.
Now´s the time !!!
To confront such a great orchestra with this motley and crooked music feels great and challenging. The range of musicians in – age, style, experience, ethnicity, gender, etc. – is very wide as well as the range of music – Tango, Free Improvisation, Beat, Graphic Notation, Jazz, Ethnic & Contemporary Music, etc.
It is a great adventure for all and for me a great opportunity to use all my combined experience from bigger bands, dance and theater.
Carliot – It´s never too late Orchestra
Carliot is Per-Åke Holmlanders middle name. Actually, he is the only one in Sweden with that name!!! Per-Åke is in some sense “the tuba world champion” of free bigger bands. He has been (or is) a member or played with bands as –
Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Barry Guy New Orchestra, Ken Vandermark Territory Bands & Resonance Ensemble, The Swedish Radio Jazz Group, London Jazz Composers Orchestra, Fire! Orchestra, Fredrik Ljungkvist Yun Kan 10, Mats Gustafsson Nu Ensemble and Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit…among others
– but now it´s time for Per-Åke as a leader and composer. Playing the heard and unheard music from theatre, dance and more. It´s never too late…
Carliot – It´s never too late Orchestra
When Per-Åke “Carliot” Holmlander is asked what improvised music means, he likes to answer with a sentence by the murdered Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme: “Improvisation is the reward of careful preparations”. Holmlander must know. After all, the Swedish musician is one of the world’s best tuba players in contemporary jazz. He formed this orchestra in 2017 during a residency at the Jazz Autumn Festival in Krakow. Early members came from his bands “Parti & Minut” and “Inner Ear” and were complemented by five musicians from the Scandinavian scene. ”It is never too late” for surprises, when the big-band formation plays “heard and unheard music from theatre, dance and other”.
